Teaching Theme Group thinking about the Future

Dean Helena Hyvönen:
”We have to think about what kind of community a new student enters at the start of his or her studies, so that that experience will be an important, inspiring and a pleasant one. There needs to be a feeling of community from the beginning, but the student will be treated as an individual. The community has to be strong and positive and it has to have links with the surrounding community, too.”, explains Helena Hyvönen, Dean of the School of Design and Professor of Textile Design at TaiK.
The idea behind this theme group is to gather information on the needs and opportunities regarding teaching and learning. The group also aims to strengthen the co-operation between universities, and develop as well as give ideas on new ways of working together with different interest groups. In addition, the group looks at questions around service and quality, and brings up issues related to implementation.
There are altogether 15 theme groups whose members include personnel and student representatives. One of the principal groups is the Teaching group which is headed by Helena Hyvönen.
The Teaching Theme Group has had three meetings this year where they have discussed e.g. the change in study culture and the new university’s focus on studies. When thinking about founding the university and target setting for it, the group has these important issues on their agenda: study culture, future visioning and listening to students.
Members in the Teaching Theme Group are Chair Helena Hyvönen (TaiK), Hannu Seristö (HSE), Kalevi Ekman (TKK), Arvo Vitikainen (TKK), representative of personnel groups Helena Sederholm (TaiK). Representing students are Mikko Ijäs (TaiK), Tiia Saloranta (TKK), Laura Lappalainen (HSE), and Secr. Iina Ekholm (TaiK).
Theme groups report to Project Managers.
